My Plan:

Since we spent an hour on the phone yesterday, and agree that the whole project is doable in three phases, we are both agreed at a hand-shake level. We need to formalize this as quickly as possible and start working together.

I will issue a document called a Proposal For a Specification; if he likes it he will pay me, I’ll write the Specification for Phase 1, if he likes it he will pay me and I’ll build Phase 1.

Then I’ll write the Specification for Phase 2, if he likes it he will pay me and I’ll build Phase 2.

Then I’ll write the Specification for Phase 3, if he likes it he will pay me and I’ll build Phase 3.

And so on. I say “and so on” because by the time we get to Phase 3 in a month’s time, we will both have adjusted our ideas, and may well break down the collective “all the other chains” which we think of as Phase 3 into a series of individual phases.
